Sometimes one would supposedly be ‘doing it all right’ but still eventually find your child lagging behind in basic aadaab. It feels like a failure on part of the parent. But then one has to remind oneself of certain things. First, seeking continuous aid from Allah to raise the child. Second, expect the child to behave like the child not an adult. And third keep trying but stop nagging. These moments feel hopeless but the key lies in effort. We can control the effort but the result is beyond our control. And a consistent and sincere effort pays off somehow, someday, inshallah. Children as they grow, demonstrate different challenges in each phase. While toddler tantrums may seem an uphill task to manage, wait for the elementary exposure to world. Having a seven year old has taught me to come to terms with failing at certain efforts, to accept the educative value of sin and to let the child learn by making a mistake, by realising the importance of good through absence of it.
